Ruah:  A Journal of Spiritual Poetry
NINTH ANNUAL NEW EDEN CHAPBOOK COMPETITION

“Power of Poetry” is a membership organization which publishes the annual Ruah.  The aim and scope of the journal is to provide a “non-combative forum” for poets who have had few or no opportunities to publish their work.  The focus of the journal is limited to “spiritual poetry,” i.e. that poetry which draws the reader into relationship with the Divine. Verse may include any experience (good or bad, clear or vague, joyful or sad) relevant to that relationship.  With the exception of Satanic verse, there are no limits or restrictions on religious affiliations.

"The New Eden Chapbook Competition" is named in honor of Leo Thomas, O.P., founder of "Healing Ministry," a parish-based program which provides spiritual support for those in need of healing.  The essence of Fr. Thomas' life and ministry recollect how Divine healing leads to a renewed experience of the Original Blessedness found in the garden of Eden.  The Chapbook Contest recognizes that poetry, particularly spiritual poetry, leads us to this place of healing particularly when it helps us touch the Divine.

Guidelines for the New Eden Chapbook Competition:

v     Submit up to 24 pages of verse of any style.  However, please do not send poetry which is "sweet," filled with cliché, or weak in rhythm/rhyme.

v     Include a table of contents, and, if necessary, acknowledgments.
